Dear Browns, Don’t Take Josh Allen!

Remember one year ago when the Browns were Team RotoViz? That changed when they decided to fire the analytically-minded front office that was executing a deep rebuild and retained arguably the worst head coach in NFL history. With that franchise trajectory in mind, it’s no surprise to read of their interest in Josh Allen with the first overall pick.
Generally, RotoViz supported the picks of DeShone Kizer and Cody Kessler as cheaper lottery tickets. Kessler performed admirably during his rookie campaign and much to our dismay, he wasn’t named the opening week starter and only saw the field in a limited capacity. Using the top pick on Josh Allen would be a huge risk despite his “physical gifts.” The theory behind the selection of Allen is that scouts see him as a similar to Carson Wentz, but Allen falls below his draft classmates and his oft-mentioned comparisons in a key area.
