RB Countdown: No. 34 Doug Martin

What can you expect from Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Doug Martin in 2017? At RotoViz, our motto is Seeing is believing. Our team leverages various internal apps and external resources to make that motto come to fruition. This series will provide you a fantasy outlook on our top-40 RBs according to projected points in PPR formats. My intent is to provide you a line of sight on the pros, cons, and projections for these RBs to empower you to make educated decisions on draft day. Did you know Martin has missed 23 games in his five-year NFL career? He missed six games last season and finished with 158 touches, 555 total yards, and three touchdowns. Martin only played 321 snaps but touched the football or was targeted on 50 percent of them. He injured his hamstring the second game of the 2016 season, missed the next seven, and finally returned in Week 10. Martin was a healthy scratch in Week 15 and 16 only to be served a four game suspension by the NFL. Martin’s NFL career and statistical production are up and down like the Dow Jones Industrial Average. DOUG MARTIN SCREENER This chart illustrates perfectly the ups and downs of owning shares of Martin in fantasy football. Will we see the 2015 player that forced 67 missed tackles on 321 touches or the 2016 player that forced 22 on 144 touches?  The Buccaneers coaching staff appears to have given him the opportunity to hold onto the starting job. How productive will Martin be once he returns from his suspension? Will his statistical production continue to fluctuate? What will the Buccaneers backfield look like? How concerned should I be about Martin’s injury history? I will address these questions and more while discussing the pros and cons of his role as part of the Buccaneers RB by committee.
