Fantasy Face-Off: Devonta Freeman Has Higher Floor and Ceiling Than Melvin Gordon

In this series, two writers take sides on a pair of players you can draft at similar ADP. I’ve got Devonta Freeman as the better bet, currently available as the RB6 (11th overall). Be sure to check out Eric Moody’s case for Melvin Gordon (RB4, 9th overall). Freeman finished 2016 as the RB6 in PPR, with 284.1 fantasy points (17.8 per game). Gordon missed the final three games of the season, but was still the RB7 with 250.6 points and a 19.3 per game average. Some may perceive Gordon’s per game average as a sign that his best season is yet to come. I remain cautious about his chances to repeat as a top-10 back, and I’m drafting Freeman as both the safer pick and the player with the higher upside.
