Joe 2 Pro: Week 16 Recap and Week 17 Plays
This article is simple. I primarily run down my entire cash game thought process for the week. I won’t list plays for the sake of listing them. If I know early in the week which guy I am starting at QB, he’s the only guy I’ll mention.
I’m going to list my whole player pool at each position. Then I will write up the one guy at each position I feel the most strongly about. Think of the first article as a rough draft. As news happens throughout the week, I’ll post an updated player pool on Friday or Saturday.
NOTE: PLAYERS ADDED TO MY PLAYER POOL ON FRIDAY/SATURDAY WILL BE IN RED.

Week 16 was quite horrible, to say the least. The two-verse-two I was debating on Saturday was Cameron Meredith/Patriots D and DeAndre Hopkins/Bills D. In hindsight, I chose very poorly. There was about 41-point difference between that. This one of the worst scores I have ever put together. Reports came out that Mike McCarthy wanted to give Christine Michael equal work with Ty Montgomery, which left me trying to decipher that Saturday morning. Ultimately, I left it. Michael played just 24 percent of the snaps for Green Bay and saw five touches. Even though Montgomery played 63 percent of the snaps, he saw only nine carries, with five targets in the passing game. I was still projecting Montgomery for 16-to-18 touches and all the red-zone work. Sadly, Rodgers just had very little use for the running game as he and Jordy Nelson throttled the Vikings’ secondary.
I was really disappointed this week in the way my lineup turned out. Luckily, I am still up $2685 this season. It’s nowhere near where I thought I’d be, but that is just how DFS goes sometimes. The last three years, Week 17 has been my profitable week every single season, so I’m hoping that trend continues so I can boost that bankroll a little more. Let’s get it!
Week 17 Plays
- Aaron Rodgers – If you can reach him, Rodgers has to be the primary cash game target for Week 17. He’s in a must-win game against a Detroit defense that ranks 32nd in pass DVOA. Rodgers come with a massive floor and ceiling. Outside of his start against the Bears two weeks ago, Rodgers has two or more touchdown passes in the last eight of his nine games. Rodgers has 14 touchdowns and zero interceptions in his last six games, tied for a league-best .62 fantasy points per dropback.
- Matt Ryan
- Russell Wilson
- Matthew Stafford
- Kirk Cousins
- David Johnson – Some people may be scared off of Johnson because the Cardinals aren’t playing for anything, but they’ve been out of the playoff race for a few weeks now and Johnson has played 100 percent, 100 percent, and 98 percent of snaps in the last three weeks. Nobody on this slate carries his floor and upside.
- Devonta Freeman
- Alfred Blue
- Spencer Ware
- Jacquizz Rodgers
- Rex Burkhead
- Rob Kelley
- Jordy Nelson
- Golden Tate – Tate may be one of my favorite mid-range options on this slate. Green Bay been torched through the air this season as they rank 31st in aFPA against wide receivers. With Theo Riddick expected to be out, Tate’s projection looks even better.
- Davante Adams
- J.J. Nelson
- Pierre Garcon
- DeSean Jackson
- Doug Baldwin
- Brandin Cooks
- Eli Rogers
- Travis Kelce – Kelce is currently the only player I am looking at tight end. Especially on DraftKings where he is severely miss-priced at $5,000. He has an insane amount of targets in the last six weeks with 30.5 percent of the Chiefs target share and he has topped 100 yards receiving in five of the last six games. Kelce offers a ton of safety at a volaitile position.
- Browns (DK punt)
