Rams’ Demoff Says Brian Quick Has Had a Strong Offseason

Rams COO Kevin Demoff recently had this to say about Brian Quick and the Rams’ passing game:

Brian Quick has had a very strong offseason and we’re excited about his progress.  I know a lot was made that he was supposedly the “4th receiver” but I don’t know how that story got legs and took on a life of its own.  One of the most exciting things during OTA’s and the offseason was to watch the offense open up and use all of the weapons, and Brian really presents some matchup problems outside with his height and speed…There is nothing that should hold Brian back from reaching his potential.  He’s a hard worker, he’s diligent about getting better and he’s determined to be a featured member of our offense.

What would it look like for Brian Quick to reach his potential?

Back in March I explored Quick’s career trajectory and suggested he could become a player on par with injury-sleeper Jordy Nelson or the undervalued Brandon Marshall.

Since the article was published, the Rams have acquired Jared Cook, Tavon Austin, and Stedman Bailey, which has distracted many from the Brian Quick train.  While those players are notable additions, they seem unlikely to contend for Quick’s spot at the X receiver.  In fact, the presence of these players in the slot may help free up Quick on the outside.  To temper expectations, Demoff suggested that all five WRs and the two TEs will play a role and that it’s more probable that we see everyone catch 40-50 balls, but nobody approach 70-80 catches. That said, a 2013 line of 40-600-6 from BQ would put him in the WR40 range that can be had at WR65.  Long term, he has WR1 upside and may have a reduced price tag given the Rams’ additions.  Now is the cheapest he’ll ever be.  Act Quick to see if you can get him on your roster.
