Comparing Cordarrelle Patterson to Darrius Heyward-Bey

Just a quick post here to throw in a name that didn’t quite make the cut for my other Patterson article today.  DHB is similar to Patterson on a few measures but then deviates from Patterson on a few others.  For instance, DHB actually caught a much larger share of his team’s touchdowns even if they caught about the same number on a per game basis.

I know that a lot of people will consider it a knock if I say that Patterson shares some similarities to DHB, but I actually thought that by his 3rd season DHB looked like he was going to be a productive receiver.  Although perhaps that doesn’t really address the idea that Patterson’s biggest risk might be being overdrafted based on perceived athleticism…

In any case, when I mention a comparable like this it is almost universal to hear a rebuttal that says that the this year prospect (Patterson) is much better than the prior year prospect (DHB), even when that prior year prospect was drafted ahead of where we expect the current year prospect to go.
